Gil Murray

March 09, 1933 - August 31, 2016

It is with great sadness that we report the passing of Gil Murray, the founder of Black Knight and much, much more.

Forty years ago, Gil had a vision for a different kind of racquet company, to be based in Canada and to have as its mission to support and encourage the growth of racquet sports. Over time, the focus narrowed to squash and badminton, and from Gil’s original impetus, millions of dollars have gone into supporting athletes, events, associations and more in those sports.

Gil was courageous, inspiring and visionary. He drew the best from so many people and shared his best with them. After his retirement although he faced a long struggle with Parkinson's disease he worked tirelessly to raise considerable funds for research into prostate cancer. His greatest joy came from his family – his wife Christl, his daughters Leslie, Diane and Karen, 7 grandkids & 2 great-grandkids, and numerous nieces, nephews, sisters & brothers in-laws.

A Celebration of Life will take place on September 11, 2016 at 1 p.m. at the Operating Engineers Hall, 4333 Ledger Ave., Burnaby, BC. In lieu of flowers please consider donating to Country Meadows Senior Men's Golf Club referencing Gil's pet project, prostate cancer research. - See more at: http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/theprovince/obituary.aspx?n=gil-murray&pid=181285772#sthash.6ycuzQW4.dpuf
